Vacancy exists for a Clinical Psychologist at the VA Medical Center, Charleston, SC, in the Pain Medicine Program within the Anesthesiology Service.  Among the modalities provided are comprehensive, evidence-based  psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy.

NOTE 1:  A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be approved for this position.

Major Duties

The Staff Psychologist diagnoses mental disorders, conducts psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treats mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provides adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients with pain and superimposed behavioral/psychological disorders (especially as related to change & adjustment to loss and disability).  Among the modalities provided are comprehensive, evidence-based  psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy. The incumbent is assigned to the Pain Medicine Program within the Anesthesiology Service.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:  (a.) Education: Doctoral degree (Ph. D. or equivalent) in Psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). (b.) 1 year internship meeting APA requirements. (c.) Licensure: Must be licensed or certified as a psychologist in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the US or the District of Columbia.   The requirement for licensure may be waived at the GS-11 and GS-12 levels for a period not to exceed two years from the date of VA employment on the condition that the employee only provides care under the supervision of a psychologist who is licensed as described above.



GS-11:  None beyond the basic qualifications.  



GS-12:  One year of postdoctoral experience as a professional psychologist.  Individuals assigned as GS-12 psychologists may be in the process of obtaining licensure at the independent practice level.  Candidate must demonstrate the following knowledges, skills, and abilities (KSAs):  (1) Knowledge of, and ability to apply a wide range of professional psychological theories and assessment methods to a variety of patient populations (2) Ability to develop coherent treatment strategies (3) Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures.



GS-13:  Two years of postdoctoral experience.  Licensure or certification as a psychologist in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the US or the District of Columbia.  Candidate must demonstrate the following knowledges, skills, and abilities (KSAs):  (1)  Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations.  (2)  Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.  (3)  Knowledge of clinical research literature.


You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
