This position is located in the Fire Department, Support Services Division, Fire Prevention Branch, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire & Emergency Services, Hampton Roads Area. The purpose of this position is to serve as Fire protection Inspector providing fire protection for the installation.

3. Inspects areas and buildings including industrial structures, large multi-storied buildings, airfields and aircraft repair shops, explosives and fuel storage warehouses, and transfer areas to detect fire hazards.

5. Assist with maintaining files on inspections, new construction, hazards and calculations of occupant loading.
6. Assist with maintaining constant surveillance over numerous and frequently changing hazardous conditions consisting of hazardous material identification, proper handling, and correct storage.
7. Reviews plans for new construction, alterations and extension of existing structures.
8. Inspects and corrects deficiencies in a variety of fixed fire protection systems (e.g., heat rise detection systems, carbon dioxide cascade systems, sprinkler/deluge systems, and portable fire extinguishing equipment).
9. Makes or recommends changes in basic fire protection and prevention systems, equipment, procedures, or regulations.
10. Assist with inspections of hazardous waste and hazardous material sites during fire inspection cycles and reports deficiencies to proper authorities.
11. Participates in preconstruction conferences with Public Works, safety engineers and contractors to insure compliance of fire and safety regulations.
12. Conducts inspections and evaluations of conditions prior to issuing Hazardous Operations Permits for welding/cutting operations, open burning, and/or fuel transfer operations.
13. Assist with developing, organizing and implementing a fire education program for employees and management.
14. Conducts on-the-job training for firefighters in fire prevention and fire inspection practices.
