This position is located in the Office of Research and Development
(ORD), National Center for Environmental Assessment (NCEA),
Integrated Risk Information System Staff (IRIS) in Arlington, VA.

Although the duty location of this position is stated as Arlington,
VA, the location is yet to be determined. It may be at NCEA in
Arlington, VA or NCEA in Research Triangle Park, NC. The duty
location will be determined after a selection(s) have been made for
this position. The salary will be commensurate with the duty
location.

Salary for RTP, NC: GS-12: $67,416 to $87,644; GS-13: $80,168 to
$104,223

Major Duties

At the full performance level, incumbent will serve as an IRIS
health assessor responsible for the development of multiple,
concurrent health assessments in accordance with a set of priorities
and a schedule.

The IRIS health assessor:

Conducts in-depth review and analysis of data supporting the
qualitative and quantitative estimates of health effects from
various chemical substances and other environmental contaminants.

Develops credible health assessment documents for IRIS that reflect
current scientific principles and risk assessment methodologies.

Arranges internal and external review of health assessments and
responds to comments.

Identifies and resolves cross-cutting issues related to risk
assessment and develops methods, models, and guidance to improve
assessments.

Advises NCEA and IRIS staff management on scientific issues related
to health assessments.

Provides consultation and peer review of assessments and assessment
related documents generated by outside parties.

The primary difference between grade levels is the degree of
supervision, the level of training and guidance provided and the
complexity of assignments.

Extramural resources management duties comprise less than 25% of the
duties of the position and consist of contracts management,
grants/cooperative agreements, and/or Interagency agreements.

Qualifications

Applicants must have general and/or specialized experience and/or


education as described below. This requirement is in accordance

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to the educational


requirements at least one year of specialized experience comparable


in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower GS level in the


federal government is required. Specialized experience is that


which has equipped the applicant with the experience to successfully


perform the duties of this position.




Examples of specialized experience are:




For GS-12:




-- Experience assisting in the development of human health hazard


and dose-response assessments based on data derived from human and


animal studies, or




-- Experience in conducting research that supports human health


hazard and dose-response assessments.




For GS-13:




-- Experience in leading the development human health hazard and


dose-response assessments based on data derived from human and


animal studies, or




-- Experience in conducting research that supports human health


hazard and dose-response assessments.




The occupational questionnaire is designed to assess your

Ability in project management.

Basic requirements for Biologist: Degree: Successful completion of a


full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree


in an accredited college or university that included a major field


of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource


management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the


position. OR




Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a


major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional


education.




Basic requirements for Toxicologist: Degree in toxicology; or an


appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary


sciences that includes at least 30 semester hours in chemistry,


biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.




Basic requirements for Health Scientist: Degree in an academic


field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate


to the work of the position.
All males born in 1960 or later (who are selected for appointment)


must certify that they have met registration requirements under the


Selective Service Law prior to appointment.




The selectee will be required to complete a confidential Financial


Disclosure Form, OGE Form 450, prior to entering on duty and


annually thereafter.




In accordance with Federal and Agency travel regulations, the


candidate selected for this position will be reimbursed for all


travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with


reporting for duty to this position.
