The incumbent functions as expert practitioner, educator, and in-house consultant to nursing staff in the Acute Psychiatric Unit, and Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences outpatient, residential programs and the Spinal Cord Injury Unit.

Major Duties

The incumbent functions as expert practitioner, educator, and in-house consultant to nursing staff in the Acute Psychiatric Unit, and Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences outpatient, residential programs and Spinal Cord Injury Unit.  Provides direct care services including individual and group therapy.  Role models expert and ethical psychiatric nursing practice and develops staff nurses to conduct individual and group therapeutic activities.  The CNS functions as a team leader in psychiatric and mental health nursing by leading project teams, task forces, and committee meetings, which contribute directly to the improvement of patient care.  The CNS provides basic nursing and interdisciplinary education for new psychiatric and mental health nurses, as well as advanced training and development in complex patient care issues.  The CNS facilitates interdisciplinary care of complex psychiatric patients throughout the continuum of care from admission to the Psychiatric Unit, to discharge, and life in the community when individual patient care requires advanced nursing practice.  This is not a credentialed position, and comes under the staff nurse pay scale.

Qualifications

The incumbent must be a U.S. citizen, possess a full, active, current and unrestricted RN license from any U.S. state or territory, be proficient in English and be a graduate from a school of nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Two years experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and/or Advanced Practice Nurse in psychiatric mental health nursing.  Master's degree in psychiatric-mental health nursing and professional certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.


You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

Before and after appointment, you may be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
