NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION NOT TO EXCEED SIX MONTHS. This temporary position will end on the not to exceed date, may be terminated before the not to exceed date, may be extended or may be made permanent without further recourse to merit promotion procedures. When the temporary appointment is terminated, the employee will be returned to his/her former position for which qualified at the former grade and appropriate step to which the employee would be entitled if the temporary position had not taken place.



A vacancy exists for one full-time (1.0) Licensed Practical Nurse under the Outpatient Specialty Surgery Clinical Manager, Surgical Specialty Care Service Line at the Iowa City Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The incumbent will be responsible for many different functions including administration and support of the OTTR (Organ Transplant Tracking Record) database that is being instituted in the Renal Transplant office. Training will be provided for OTTR transplant database use.



The incumbent will be responsible for retrieving and charting post-transplant patient lab results. This position will include retrieving test results and patient information from referring providers. This incumbent will be involved with wait list management, which involves updating necessary test/consults on patients on the transplant waiting list. This person will be working closely with the transplant coordinators, and other inpatient care areas. The incumbent will be participating in patient teaching and discharge planning.



Transplant clinic occurs every Thursday for pre-transplant evaluations, living donor evaluations and post-transplant follow-up. The incumbent will work closely with the transplant coordinators in caring for the clinic patients.



This position will primarily be 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. However, the position often requires intermittent unplanned extension of the regular tour of duty as patient care needs dictate. Applicants with the following qualifications are invited to apply for the position.

Qualifications

A.     A minimum of 3 years LPN experience is required. Experience with transplant patients is preferred.



B.     Demonstrated clinical competence in current assignment.



C.     Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, and adherence to work obligations which include professional and clinical integrity.



D.     Demonstrated effective practice during emergency situations.



E.      Demonstrated effective interpersonal relationship skills in professional practice.



Special Requirement: The successful candidate will be required to complete a physical examination prior to appointment, unless a previous VA physical examination meets the requirements for the position.

A. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state-accrediting agency at the time the program was completed.

B. Certification, specialized courses, seminars, workshops, etc., within the past two years, which would enhance desirability for the position.
