The Human Resources Office, Glacier National Park, is soliciting applications for the purpose of filling the temporary positions listed above.  The area of consideration is ALL SOURCES. 


Should a vacancy occur in West Glacier, MT. we will use this vacancy announcement to fill the position.

These are temporary positions not to exceed 1039 hours in a service year.  Positions may exceed this limitation if workload dictates and funding allows.  Positions are expected to filled approximately May through September.  Work schedule will be 40 hours per week.  Weekend and holiday work may be required.

Duty Station Location is St. Mary: St. Mary, Montana has seasonal food and gas services. Most amenities are available in Browning, Montana (35 miles). Medical facilities are available in Browning and Cardston, Alberta, Canada (31 miles).


 


Duty Station Location is West Glacier: West Glacier has seasonal food and gas services. All services are available in Columbia Falls (17 miles), Kalispell (32 miles) or Whitefish (28 miles).


 


Government housing is not available.

Major Duties

Operates vehicles and equipment in support of the Roads Branch of the Facility Management Division in Glacier National Park. Operates gasoline and diesel powered trucks equipped with manual and automatic transmissions. Trucks and equipment to be operated include dump trucks, flatbed trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, bobcats, solid waste trucks, and specialty pumping equipment. May be required to operate heavier equipment on an occasional basis to perform minor plowing/sanding operations or remove rock debris. Most trucks and equipment are equipped with PTOs for various attachments and are hydraulically operated. Equipment is used for equipment and material transport, loading trucks, etc. Selectee will be required to drive over narrow mountainous roads with heavy traffic and poor visibility and road conditions, crowded campgrounds and picnic areas, etc. Must be capable of working on steep rocky terrain with sheer drop-offs. Completes daily work reports and is assigned other duties to include general laborer functions.
 
Physical Demands:Heavy physical effort will be required while carrying out duties such as loading or shifting cargo, coupling trailers and attachments, digging holes, etc.  Incumbent will be required to bend, reach, turn, move hands, arms, feet, and legs while driving or maneuvering vehicles.  Will lift equipment and material, which may weigh in excess of 50 lbs.  May spend an entire shift standing.  Work is performed outdoors in all kinds of weather including rain, hail, snow, strong winds, and temperature ranges of -30 to 95 F.  A physical examination is required prior to appointment.

SCREEN-OUTS:




-Ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision (screen-out)

Although no specific amount of experience, education, or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the positions.  The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Handbook X-118C for the WG-5703 series is used as a basis for qualifications.  Applicants must possess the knowledges, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position.  The job elements of a Motor Vehicle Operator are listed below.  You must possess skills and/or abilities in the following areas and will be evaluated accordingly:




 




-Ability to operate motor vehicles in excess of 26,000 GVW up to 54,000 GVW




-Skill in road practices and methods




-Skill in performing maintenance on road equipment and vehicles




-Ability to interpret instructions




 




Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless of whether the experience was gained as a part-time or full-time occupation.  Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position they have held.  Work experience must contain dates and hours worked per week.

To be eligible for this position, you must possess the education, training, and/or experience as described in questions 1 and 2 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire.


Other Information:




A tentative selectee must undergo a background investigation and favorable results must be received by Glacier National Park prior to establishment of an entrance-on-duty date.




 




In accordance with Executive Order 12564, applicants selected for these positions are required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, these positions are drug-testing designated positions subject to random testing for illegal drug use.




 




This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.  A valid Montana Class A, Type 1 (or equivalent from another state) CDL driver’s license and tanker endorsement is required at time of application. Please provide this information in your resume/application.




 




If you are tentatively selected, and as a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record.  You must also submit,  at your own expense, (within a state-sealed envelope or submitted directly by the state authorities), certified driving records from all states disclosing all valid driver’s licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.  Your employment, after your tentative selection, will be contingent upon receipt of these documents in a timely manner and that those documents establish, to the satisfaction of the selecting official, that you possess a valid driver’s license. Failure to provide proof of a valid driver’s license may be grounds for termination.




 




The wearing of the National Park Service uniform is a requirement of these positions. The uniform must be worn in accordance with applicable policies, and the selectee will be required to sign an acknowledgement letter.




 




1. The selectee must be 18 years of age or at least 16 years of age and a high school graduate at the time he/she reports for work.




2. The selectee must be a U.S. citizen.  Proof of citizenship is required.  Before entering on duty, the applicant must document citizenship by providing the following:

Salary Range:  19.54 - 22.79 USD Hourly

1. Federal employees, depending on the type of appointment, may earn annual (vacation) leave (from 4 to 8 hours) for every 80 hours worked according to the number of years (civilian plus creditable military) they have in the Federal service. Sick leave is earned at a rate of 4 hours for every 80 hours worked regardless of length of service.
