Major Duties

The Nurse Practitioner is directly responsible to the designated manger in the assigned area and must hold a collaborative agreement with a qualified physician. The NP utilizes advanced practice nursing skill and knowledge in a relatively independent manner in areas of patient care, education, research and consultation. The NP provides holistic healthcare to individuals, families, and groups across the adult life span. This process includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan and evaluation.
The NP practices in an accordance with a written scope of practice established for the specific practice area. The scope of practice for the NP includes responsibilities, diagnosis and treatment authorities prescribing privileges for drugs, devices, test and procedures, and referral authority. The NP functions as an advocate for patients in meeting their unique physical and physiological needs. Role responsibilities and accountabilities also include demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice. The knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.

The NP is also responsible and accountable for maintaining BCLS and /or ACLS training when required and for performing activities that reflect the educational, experiential and competency requirements outline in the nine (9) dimensions: Nursing Practice, Quality of Care, Performance, Educational/Career Development, Collegiality, Ethics, Collaboration, Research, Resource Utilization.  The nurse practitioner will perform compensation and pension (C&P) exams by CPEP (Veterans Affairs Compensation and Pension Examination Program). The NP in the C&P role provides compensation and pension (disability) exams which are requested by the Veteran’s Benefit Administration (VBA).  As a nurse practitioner in the compensation and pension role, medical treatment of the veterans will not be required.  The compensation and pension exam is performed solely to evaluate disability.  Any treatment on conditions found would need to be referred back to the veteran’s private physician, or to the ER, should acute treatment be necessary.The NP in the compensation and pension role will be asked to provide opinions on some disability cases utilizing the standard format for opinions by the VBA.  At this time, all compensation and pension exams performed by nurse practitioners, must be co-signed by a physician before returning the report to VBA.  The NP should be proficient in report-writing, as well as the use of the computer software. The NP in the compensation and pension role is a part of the ARC clinic, as well as the Occupational Health clinic.  The Nurse Practitioner will see employees for “care to stay on duty” and “work related injuries”; as well as pre-employment physicals. The NP will perform DAV driver physicals per request. In addition, the nurse practitioner is accountable and responsible for possessing the knowledge and skills to:(1)   Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers(2)   Maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information(3)   Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards and the safe use and operation of equipment

Qualifications

You must have two to three years of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this job that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically we would find this experience in work within this filed or field that closely related.

Graduate from a professional school of nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency and possess a Master's Degree from a  program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full current certifications as a Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. CUrrent, full, active and unrestricted license and /or certification. Out-of-State license accepted. Proficiency is spoken and written English is required. Experience Requirements: Two to three years experience in a clinical based setting.


You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

Must have an active, unrestricted nursing license and Nurse Practitioner Certification with prescribing privileges.

Out-Of-State licenses Accepted.
