The Marion VA Health Care System is recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for our Behavioral Medicine Care Line.  Duties include, but are not limited to: The incumbent will provide assessment and treatment planning for adult patients with mental health and substance abuse diagnoses.  Incumbent will provide education and counseling for outpatients and families in preventative care, medical and psychiatric conditions and use of prescribed medications.  Provide individual and group psychotherapy within defined scope of practice.  Provide ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients.  Screen outpatients to determine need for further care.  Prescribe medication within prescribed scope of practice. Order diagnostic tests such as laboratory tests, x-rays, EKGs.  Provide evaluation and notify physician of abnormal results.  Perform health promotion and disease prevention activities.  Initiate and expedite requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies.

Qualifications

All individuals applying under this announcement for the Nurse Practitioner must meet the qualification standards contained in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G6.  These standards are available in the Human Resources Liaison Office for review.  Candidates who meet the appropriate requirements contained in the standard will be considered.

Citizenship:  Must be a United States Citizen.  (Noncitizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available in accordance with current regulations).

Physical Requirements:  Must meet physical requirements.

English Language Proficiency:  Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Registration:  Must have current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, Territory, or commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico) of the United States or the District of Columbia.

Experience in family practice or general internal medicine is preferred.

Psychiatric experience is preferred.
You must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test before you can be appointed into this position.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range:  77,849.00 - 103,534.00 USD per yearDependent on qualifications and experience. Applicant(s) selected for this position will be eligible to apply for an award up to $48,000 under the provisions of the Education Debt Reduction Program
