About the Position: Position will be filled at either the GS-05 or GS-06 level. At the GS-05 level, performs developmental assignments under closer than normal supervision. ** ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES MAY QUALIFY FOR A RECRUITMENT BONUS.This position is supervised by the Watch Commander, Directorate of Emergency Services. This position is located on Historic Main Post, Fort Riley, KS.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Must have successfully completed one of the following: Mixed Basic Police Officer Training Course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC); An accredited civilian (Local or State) Law Enforcement Training Academy; A certified Military or Security Police training program (i.e. the United States Army Military Police School), or, if not previously certified, personnel must be able to successfully complete a Police Officer Training Course when offered.

Major Duties
At the full performance GS-06 level, perform duties as a Police Officer and as a team member on a variety of fixed and mobile posts you will enforce safety regulations as necessary to enforce Federal laws. You will conduct law enforcement duties at interior and exterior gates, assure proper identification of all pedestrians or motor traffic, clear visitors, and maintain prescribed records. Participate in regularly scheduled training in the techniques of first aid, sabotage, disorder, riot, disaster, and counter-terrorism. Maintain traffic control at shift changes, enforces traffic regulations, controls and reroutes traffic in emergency situations, issues warning, tickets or summons, apprehends violators, obtains facts, and prepares statements concerning accidents or violations. Operate a military vehicle in the regular performance of duties, performs operator maintenance on vehicle, and maintains the cleanliness of weapons and equipment.

General Schedule SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify at the GS-05 applicants must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. To qualify at the GS-06 level applicants must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is further defined as experience that provided knowledge of Federal, state, local, installation laws, statutes, ordinances, to perform a full range of police operations in preventing and resolving crime, including conducting preliminary investigations of incidents and performing dispatching duties. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties. EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION AT THE GS-05 LEVEL: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelors degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position. Your resume must reflect the specific college course work and/or degree identified to substitute education for experience.
NOTE: This position is inclement weather essential.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Must be able to pass, prior to hiring, a physical and mental examination and undergo annual physical and mental examinations to ensure fitness for duty and must pass, within 6 months of hiring, a physical agility test. Must pass a Criminal History Background Check. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position. The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Education can be substituted for experience.
