United States and operate and maintain over
17,000 miles of high-voltage transmission lines.

administrations within the

Major Duties

At the full performance level, this position has knowledge of all
aspects of power system operation. This position monitors
generation, net interchange between the Western Area Power
Administration's Sierra Nevada Region (WASN) sub-balancing authority
(SBA) and the interconnection and insures availability of adequate
SBA reserves; develops a shift plan based on a schedule of
anticipated firm loads, generating resources, Sierra Nevada Region
(SNR) base resource energy marketing schedules, and third-party
energy schedules serving load within the SBA; operates automatic
generation control (AGC) equipment and monitors SBA interconnections
for the Region; reacts appropriately to compensate for the loss of
SBA resources, ensuring compliance with North American Electric
Reliability Corporation (NERC) disturbance control criteria and that
SGA reserve obligations are restored per NERC and applicable regional
council standards.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:




If you are tentatively selected for this


position, you will be required to have a


physical examination that will determine whether


you are qualified to perform the duties of the


position. An offer of employment will depend


upon you successfully passing the physical


examination.




This position requires completion of an


annual medical examination at Federal


expense.




You must test negative for illegal drugs


before placement in the position, and will be


subject to random drug testing thereafter. If a


determination of the use of illegal drugs is

If selected for this position, you must live


no more than 60 minutes away from the duty


station in case of call-out.




You must become certified as a power system


operator by the North American Electric Reliability


Corporation (NERC), within the first 11 months after


appointment, and maintain appropriate certification


during your employment. This is a condition of employment.




You will be assigned rotating shifts,


since the power system operates 24 hours a day.


Your workweek may include weekends and holidays.




If selection is made at a lower grade,


promotion up to the full performance level may


be made without further competition. However,


promotion will depend on the performance of


the incumbent and is not guaranteed.




If selected, you may be required to serve a


one-year probationary period.




If selected for this position, your


appointment is contingent upon completion of


OF-306, Declaration for Federal Employment,


during the pre-employment process.




If selected, you will be required to


complete a questionnaire and are subject to a


criminal background check to determine


suitability for Federal employment before


appointment.
