This is a TEMPORARY position not-to-exceed 6 months.  The appointments may be extended without further announcement.  Maximum total appointment will not exceed 2 years.



Major Duties

This temporary position is at the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex, located in Alameda, CA.  The employee will perform the following tasks on a wildlife refuge.

Conducts biological surveys, observes and records data on avian and mammalian predators. 
Computes, compiles, analyzes, and summarizes data.
Assists biologists by reviewing, extracting and synthesizing data for report preparation.
Assists with operation of Tern Watch predator observation program and volunteer work groups.

PRINCIPLES AND TECHNIQUES OF WILDLIFE BIOLOGY TO CONDUCT BIOLOGICAL SURVEYS.

The Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standards Handbook for General Schedule Positions will be used to determine qualification requirements. You must meet qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.




Candidates must meet the basic requirements specified under either A or B below:




A.  One year specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-4 level.

Specialized experience is experience that is directly related to the position to be filled and has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this job, specialized experience includes having had primary responsibility for the duties as those described under Major Duties, such as conduct wildlife surveys, computing, compiling and summarizing data.




Education (post-high school) must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university. One full year of undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. One full year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours which the school attended has determined represents one year of full-time study. If this number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours is considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. If individual courses are not easily identifiable as satisfying the various course categories shown in the Basic Qualifications and they are needed to meet the minimum standard, you must submit written course descriptions (usually those from the school catalogs) verified by the school for those applicable classes. Partial credit may be given depending on the description.

Security Clearance: A background investigation MAY be required for all new hires.
