Major Duties
Serves as an automation specialist at an Air Route Traffic Control Center. Works with the National Airspace System (NAS) software systems, applying technical automation and air traffic knowledge to resolve software problems, create and maintain the adaptation data base, and provide automation support of air traffic operations. Must apply in-depth knowledge of ATC procedures used in the facility to ensure the adequacy of automation support. Responsible for analysis of the automated Air Traffic (ATC) activity within the facility and applies knowledge of ATC procedures to assure the adequacy of automation support. Typical duties include (1) performs required research to identify, analyze, and resolve operational automation discrepancies, (2) provides automation support based on knowledge of air traffic control procedures and a general knowledge of facility traffic flows, flight data requirements, radar data, and intra-facility and inter-facility coordination procedures, (3) develops, maintains, tests, and modifies the computer database to assure that maximum effectiveness is achieved and that data is processed in a precise and timely manner, and (4) coordinates with staff at local and other facilities regarding automation decisions and activities that affect operations. Serves on special project teams to evaluate the effectiveness of automation services. Performs technical analysis, documentation, and related tasks in direct support of the air traffic operations. Develops, maintains, tests, and modifies the computer database to assure that maximum effectiveness is achieved. Reviews and evaluates proposed changes and corrections to the automated system. Provides technical assistance to operational personnel for the resolution of system malfunctions. Designs and monitors the execution of test plans and implementation plans.
