THIS IS A TERM APPOINTMENT WITH INITIAL APPOINTMENT NOT TO EXCEED (NTE) 13 MONTHS, BUT MAY BE EXTENDED UP TO FOUR YEARS.


THIS POSITION IS ALSO A SEASONAL POSITION. INCUMBENT WILL BE IN WORK/PAY STATUS FOR A SPECIFIED TIME PERIOD EACH YEAR OF 32 WEEKS AND WILL BE PLACED IN NON-PAY STATUS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR.


This position is located at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge in St. Marks, Florida. Incumbent serves as the Environmental Education Specialist, administering, developing, and refining the Refuge's environmental education program. The environmental education programs are formal, structured programs that use the environment as an integrating context to meet local, state, and national education standards for curriculum based learning.

Major Duties

Incumbent researches materials to incorporate into the existing program to meet local, state, and national education standards. Coordinates with youth programs and educational agencies to introduce environmental education into their activities, educational program strategy, and lesson plans. Reviews environmental education materials in a variety of media, such as computer assisted learning programs, audiovisual aids, radio, television, film, and video. Conducts training sessions and workshops for teachers, volunteers, other staff, and adult education groups delivering and testing environmental education curricula. Assists in writing educational grants. Determines resource requirements for courses and programs such as facilities, equipment, and materials. Develops annual budget for the environmental education program at the Refuge.

If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered an academic year of graduate study.
C. I have less than the full amount of experience described in A above and less than the full amount of graduate education described in B. However, I have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education.
