This position is located in the Appellate Section of the Tax Division.  The office is downtown Washington, not far from the National Mall and local restaurants and eateries.  The office is accessible by public transportation, including the subway.

Major Duties

This position is located in the Appellate Section, Tax Division, Washington, DC. The incumbent uses automated legal reference systems to conduct basic research, compile information, and verify citations. Using word processing and other programs, prepares legal documents for court filings, such as briefs, pleadings and other required forms. Initiates and composes standardized legal forms needed for specific legal actions. Reviews forms for correct format and timeliness, and annotates case files and status records to reflect receipt and due date for response or other actions required. Provides information, assistance, and guidance to callers and/or visitors. Establishes and maintains legal case files. Makes travel arrangements, prepares authorizations and vouchers.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this job that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related.

For the GS-7 Level: You must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal government, or comparable experience. 

For the GS-8 Level:  You must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal government, or comparable experience. 

Examples of specialized experience include legal clerical/administrative experience such as making travel arrangements; establishing and maintaining case files or systems of legal records; processing various legal documents; using automated legal research systems and legal reference files.


Special Requirements:

First consideration will be given to Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) and Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) eligibles. Individuals who have special priority selection eligibility under the CTAP or ICTAP must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.

Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605 (a) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. This includes proof of eligibility, a copy of your most recent Performance Rating and a copy of your most recent SF-50 noting current position, title, series, grade level, and duty location. Must complete a 1-year probationary period.

If the selectee is not a current employee of the U.S. Department of Justice, the selectee must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test before being appointed to this position.
