This position performs basic library functions, manages the library's circulation system, catalogs all materials for the library using software meeting the NPS Library Program standards, receives visitors and monitors registration and research use, and performs a variety of clerical operations in support of the library. The position is located in the Division of Interpretation and Visitor Services of the park.
AREA INFORMATION:
In addition to its designation as a World Heritage Site, Mesa Verde National Park is our nation’s first National Park set aside to preserve the works of man, and the duty station is located 30 miles southeast of Cortez, Colorado, near the Four Corners where the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah join. The elevation on this 52,000-acre park averages 7,000 feet above sea level, with hot, arid and dusty summers and cold, windy and snowy winters. Most amenities are available in the local communities of Cortez, Mancos, Dolores, and Durango, CO.

Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Education is not creditable, however, 1 year of graduate level education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
Specialized Experience: Experience utilizing standard, professionally accepted techniques and methods of a library, library system or specialty area to perform complex support work or to carry out limited projects; library regulations, procedures, and policies related to one or more library functions; circulation procedures, ready reference sources. Experience in the use of micro-computer software and terminology, standard office automation, particularly Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat Professional, the public access catalog, and the Internet to assist patrons in finding information in the library's collection; various metadata standards, including MARC, OCLC or Voyager online systems, in order to create metadata for each document or object and categorize materials in digital repositories. Experience managing a computerized bibliographic database system to maintain, process, and document status of specialized materials.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed indoors. Located in southwest Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park elevations vary from 7,000 to over 8,500 feet above sea level. THERE IS A DANGER OF HANTA VIRUS AND PLAGUE AT MESA VERDE NATIONAL PARK. While this danger is remote, some of the work sites may have an infestation of diseased rodents. Mesa Verde is also home to a number of known allergens such as rabbit brush, pinion, juniper, sagebrush, etc.
Physical Requirements: Duties require walking, standing, and lifting up to 30 lbs. Librarian must be able to communicate effectively
