Major Duties

Serves as a Maintenance Worker at the full performance level, assigned to one or more of the 16 lake projects within the Pittsburgh District. The maintenance staff operates and maintains a flood control dam. Dam operation and maintenance duties include: computing and making flood releases, as determined by the District Office; inspecting, repairing and maintaining the appurtenant structures and systems of the dam (skills include, but are not limited to, minor electrical and mechanical work); and assisting with annual dam inspections. The maintenance staff also maintains and repairs park facilities such as public restrooms, camp sites, picnic areas, park roads, etc. Maintenance skills include, but are not limited to, carpentry, painting, plumbing and minor welding work. The staff maintains facilities scattered throughout the park site. The maintenance staff stays in contact with the each other, the working leader and the park office throughout the day using mobile radios.

Trades and Labor REQUIREMENTS:


Obtain and maintain a valid state drivers license.


Obtain and maintain a valid Corps of Engineers boat operators license.


Ability to work nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the project to which the incumbent is assigned.


May be required to obtain and maintain a valid CPR certificate and first responder (or equivalent) certificate.


May be required to obtain and maintain a water treatment plant, Class I or II, operators license.


May be required to work in both non-permit and permit required confined space and implement proper rescue and entry techniques. May be required to be properly trained and/or operate the following equipment: Self Contained Breathing Appartus (SCBA), escape packs, atmospheric monitoring devices and fall protection equipment.





SCREENOUT ELEMENT: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Applications will also be reviewed for: Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation and repair; Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic); Use of measuring instruments; Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, to include blueprint reading; Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment; and Knowledge of materials.





PHYSICAL EFFORT: Uses moderate physical effort to stack. load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials ranging in weight from 10 lbs to 50 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platforms.





WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts, bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Experience and training that furnish the knowledges, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position consistent with accepted practices of the trade. Ability to use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment. Ability to read, understand, and apply instruction and other materials related to the job. Ability to do the work of the position under normal supervision. Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
