WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Your resume and supporting documentation will be compared to your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to capture the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The evaluation you receive is based on your responses to the questionnaire and is a measure of the degree to which your background matches the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of this position.

Once your qualifications have been evaluated, your application will be assigned a numeric score. Candidates will be ranked in score order with appropriate points added for veterans' preference.

POSITIONS COVER A VARIETY OF DAY/NIGHT SHIFTS.
Each Grade level requires 1 year of experience, but the scope and depth of independence will determine the qualifying grade level. If you fail to describe your experience so that these can be determined you may be found ineligible or eligible only at the lower grade level.
At the GS-04 level, applicants must have 6 months of general experience which familiarized the candidate with medical terminology and nursing assistant duties plus 6 months of specialized hands-on experience performing nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, clinic, nursing home, or other patient care facility as described.
Applicants for the GS-05 position must have 1 year of specialized experience as described. Assistive daily living care, by itself, is not considered technical treatment and generally is not qualifying experience for this level.
Specialized experience is defined as nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, clinic, nursing home, or other patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing medical support duties beyond providing personal daily living care. This work must demonstrate knowledge of a body of standardized patient care and skill to perform nursing care procedures for young adults to geriatric patients, including the ability to identify and properly use supplies and equipment in performing assigned diagnostic and treatment procedures and the ability to apply principles of infection control and sterile technique. Examples of support duties include charting, taking and recording vital signs, in-take/out-take measurements, repositioning and turning patients, pre- and post-operative care, setting up and operating special medical equipment, exercising patients, and applying dressings; recognizing and reporting symptoms that may indicate complications; recording patient information in the medical record; performing a range of complex treatment procedures such as administering gastrostomy tube feedings, oral suctioning, etc.; providing direction, information and limit setting in accordance with the patients treatment plan; and maintaining a clean and safe environment. It can include caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior and providing reassurance and encouragement. The work must demonstrate the ability to communicate with other staff, the patient, and their family.
MEDICAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The candidate must be able to do the work of the position without harm to self or others. This work requires standing and walking for long periods of time. The incumbent must frequently bend, reach, stoop, and stretch to perform necessary procedures.
GS-04: Successful completion of a two-year degree program in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to a field related to the position from an accredited community college, college or university can be substituted for the experience required at the GS-04 level.
GS-05: A full 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelors degree, from an accredited institution, with courses related to the duties of this position can be substituted for the experience required at the GS-05 level.
