Seeking a permanent full-time employee to coordinate a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks essential to the program administration of the Livestock Behavior Research Unit.



Major Duties

This position is located in the Livestock Behavior Research Unit (LBRU) in West Lafayette, Indiana.  The mission of the unit is to develop scientific measures of animal well-being through the study of animal behavior, stress physiology, immunology, neurophysiology and cognition that will allow an objective evaluation of animal agricultural practices. The incumbent serves as a personal assistant to the Research Leader (RL) and other professional staff, coordinating a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks essential to the program administration of the LBRU.·          Provides technical and procedural advice in support of research program administration by identifying and analyzing issues and taking or recommending action using established guidelines.  ·          Serves as the initial point-of-contact for all questions, information and problem resolution in the areas of budget and accounting, agreements, travel, human resources, files management, correspondence preparation and control, time and attendance, office automation systems, and purchasing/procurement.·          Participates in the annual budget process by:  developing financial plans, monitoring spending, and preparing financial reports.·          Uses a variety of graphical, spreadsheet, database and word processing software packages in order to produce a wide range of documents (i.e. tables, charts, graphs, correspondence).

Qualifications

Your education and experience will be evaluated against all qualification requirements (basic and any additional requirements) listed below.

Basic Requirements:

GS-06: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service or 6 months of directly related graduate education.  If qualifying based on education, your education must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities (see below) necessary to do the work.

GS: 07:  Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service or 1 year of directly related graduate education.  If qualifying based on education, your education must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities (see below) necessary to do the work.

Additional Requirements:  A minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute is required.  All applicants must self-certify their typing speed on their application(s).  Applicants who do not document typing proficiency will not receive further consideration.

Time-In-Grade Restrictions apply for all candidates considered under Merit Promotion/Alternative Merit Promotion.

Specialized Experience is experience which has equipped you with the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - 'KSAs' required to perform the duties of this position: 

1. Knowledge of the work processes and procedures of an administrative field (e.g., office administration, budget, travel, agreements, human resources, procurement/purchasing, pay and leave).

2. Ability to interpret and apply guidelines involving program and administrative processes.

3. Ability to plan and coordinate the work of an office.

4. Skill in operating a personal computer, printers, scanners, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.
