The Registered Nurse, RN Hemodialysis, position is in Nursing Service located at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) in Temple, Texas, centrally located between Austin and Dallas.  No State Income Tax.

Major Duties

Tour of Duty:  Tuesday through Saturday. 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.   The incumbent is directly responsible to the Hemodialysis Coordinator.  The successful applicant demonstrates a thorough knowledge and ability to apply sound principles of Nursing practice and Nursing Administration.  Demonstrates knowledge and competence in delivering acute Hemodialysis nursing skills.  Incumbent will provide direct care to patients who require acute Hemodialysis.  Demonstrates the ability to be self-directed and work effectively with others at all levels. Demonstrates the ability to problem-solve, initiate corrective actions, analyze existing programs and implement new programs, utilize root cause analysis in risk management, and apply process improvement principles. Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective communications (both oral and written) and develop and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and staff from other services.  Will be required to be on call.

Attendance at New Employee Orientation (Temple) is mandatory from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., on the first three duty days.

All Federal employees are required by PL 104-134 to have federal payments made by Direct Deposit. 



Selectee must provide at least one letter of reference from recent employment.  This letter of reference must be received in HRMS no later than the first day of duty.



Appointees to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Qualifications

Basic Qualification Requirements (Nurse Qualification Standard, VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G6):
1. Must be a citizen of U.S.

2. Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

3. Must have a full, current, active and unrestricted license as a nurse in a State, Territory, Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the United States or District of Columbia.

4. Must meet physical standards as indicated in VA Handbook 5019

5. Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Preferred Requirements:

1.  Associate Degree or Diploma and approximately 2-3 years of experience as Dialysis Nurse.

2.  BSN and 1-2 years of experience as Dialysis Nurse.
