This is a temporary, Purchase and Hire position, with the appointment intended to last only for the duration of the project(s) for which hired.  The work schedule is intermittent, meaning the incumbent is paid for actual hours worked, with no leave earned.  Commonly, however, full-time hours are required on a regular basis in order to complete assigned project(s) within the necessary time frame.  There are no benefits (health, life, etc.) associated with this position. 

Key Requirements:

Selectee must provide their tools and personal protective equipment.

Ability to carry tools and materials, climb, stand, lift (up to 20 lbs), sit, bend for long periods of time.

Major Duties

Incumbent maintains an efficient operating condition of electrical equipment throughout the duration of the construction project, such as motors and air conditioning equipment.  Locates, diagnoses and corrects troubles of electrical natures on the construction project.  Incumbent measures, cuts and bends conduit and installs same in existing walls, ceilings, floors and in new construction for the duration of the project.  Duty assignment will be primarily at Dallas VA Medical Center, Dallas, TX; however, incumbent may be required to travel and work at Ft. Worth Outpatient Clinic, Ft. Worth, TX, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center, Bonham, TX or off station sites.  APPLICANTS MUST HAVE A VALID ELECTRICIAN LICENSE.

Qualifications

Federal Wage System (FWS) positions require the use of a Screen-Out Element (SOE). Points awarded for this element will range from 0 to 5, with 5 being the highest. Points will be based on experience and training which are documented by your response to the job elements. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
