The Vietnam Education Foundation (www.vef.gov) was established by the U.S. Congress in December 2000 as an independent federal agency. VEF’s primary purpose is to promote closer relations between the U.S. and Vietnam through educational exchange both for Vietnamese nationals to pursue graduate and post-graduate studies in science and technology in the U.S. and for American citizens to teach in the same fields of study in Vietnam.
The VEF Board seeks an Executive Director who is a seasoned leader willing to take this organization to new heights of success while working with the Board to refine and enhance VEF’s strategic vision. The Executive Director must have an understanding of the administrative and regulatory requirements of Washington and the ability to operate comfortably in Vietnam. As a leader of a federal entity, the Executive Director must properly represent the U.S. Federal Government and be knowledgeable of the laws and regulations which apply to VEF. Additionally, the Executive Director is expected to serve as a credible and articulate spokesperson for the Foundation, so that its mission and programs are understood by other U.S. Government bodies, higher education institutions, as well as constituents in Vietnam and the United States. This position is based in Washington DC with travel to Vietnam as necessary.
Major Duties
The Executive Director of VEF will be expected to properly represent the U.S. Federal Government and be knowledgeable of the laws and regulations which apply to VEF. Serve as a credible and articulate spokesperson for the Foundation, so that its mission and programs are understood by other U.S. Government bodies, higher education institutions, as well as constituents in Vietnam and the United States. Oversee the administrative operations of the VEF, including setting the organizations strategy and professional international staff development and supervision. Operate comfortably in Vietnam and the United States, with a working knowledge of Vietnamese politics and culture. Work effectively with the U.S. Government, Congress, and relevant non-governmental organizations. Formulate, implement and evaluate educational exchange programs. Demonstrate excellence in financial and people management. Understand the higher education systems in the United States and Vietnam.

Qualifications
VEF seeks a person with outstanding skills in management and communications as well as the ability to operate in two distinctly different political environments. The Executive Director must have the flexibility to take VEF in a new direction should the Act be amended.
Bachelor's degree; master's degree or equivalent preferred.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
You will be required to make occasional travel.

Salary Range: 114,468.00 - 149,000.00 USD per year
