About the Position: Position is located at Darnall Army Community Hospital, Fort Hood, TX. Fort Hood is located near Killeen, TX, which is a fast growing communtiy with ample housing and schools. A local college and university access is available for continuing education. Local malls and a variety of restaurants are available in the area as well as neighboring communities of Austin, Waco, Dallas, and San Antonio.

Major Duties

Conduct surveys of working conditions to determine the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposure/effectiveness of existing control measures. Performs physical surveillance of employees exposed to particular toxic materials or physical hazards, During planning/developmental phase, evaluates proposed new work processes or materials, particularly in experimental operations, to assure incorporation of adequate measures for prevention of occupational disease hazards. Performs trouble shooting to ventilation system to locate ventilation performance problems. Investigate health problems, which arise among workers and determine corrective measures. Conducts health education training designed to educate personnel as to means of preventing occupational disease and their role in controlling hazards. Retrieves and updates data for reports associated with the occupational and health hazards information database in the work unit. Review designs for new and/or renovated buildings and facilities.

General Schedule Basic Requirements:Must have a BS or BA Degree Industrial Hygiene; Biology, or a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hrs in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hrs of courses in any combination of chemistry,physics,engineering,health physics,environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology or industrial hygiene. Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
In addition to the Basic Requirements applicants may have two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters degree or masters or equivalent graduate degree or 1 year specialized experience equivalent to the pay band 1 level for pay band 2 level . SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: . Specialized experience is experience with professional knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices applicable to planning and carrying out industrial hygiene assignments for a military activity concerned primarily with large and complex industrial processes. Experience in recognizing evaluating occupational health hazards, including those for which the nature and ex tent of the hazard is not completely understood. Experience with Health Hazard Information Module (HHIM) program to include on-site surveys, recording, coding data, and retrieval of information from the data base. Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene Surveillance System to be able to provide data entry and retrieval of information. Experience required to evaluate all phases of a ventilation system. Experience required investigating health problems within the workplace and to recommend measures to protect the workers, health.
