Job Listing: Director of Design-Retail Interiors

We are currently seeking a Director of Design with retail experience for one of the nation's largest Design/Build firms. Salary is negotiable based on experience.

Job Description

The Director of Retail Experience (DRE) is responsible for setting the vision and implementing the design direction for all revenue generating elements in the shopping center common areas of the US portfolio. These elements which include specialty leasing components, floating retail, partnership marketing activations, events and pop up retail add an enriching and always evolving component to the retail experience. In collaboration with other members of the Common Area Committee, this position will conduct brainstorming sessions to determine the potential of these key elements and how they can tie in with the company's districting, design, customer focus and other brand goals.

The DRE will promote the retail experience direction and goals to various internal and external stakeholders. The DRE will oversee the creation of tenant inspirational sales tools for all common area elements and the development of criteria manuals for all US shopping centers. The DRE will lead the development of visual merchandising and style guides for all common area tenants. Working with Partnership Marketing, the DRE will develop guidelines for events and advertising.

The DRE will act as the creative lead liaison between external retailers and, interdepartmentally, between specialty leasing, partnership marketing and development. This position will lead a team of design professionals charged with developing new design prototypes for various tenants or brands for marketing purposes and conducting design reviews of common area tenants.

The DRE will collaborate with Design, Development Marketing and Operations on the development of customer oriented prototypes for non revenue elements such as seating elements, family lounges, restrooms, concierge desks and other customer touchpoints.

The DRE will supervise internal design managers and designers and give individual design direction on the work being assessed. The DRE will supervise their team’s collaboration with outside retail design consultants.
The DRE is responsible for setting/executing the Retail Experience team goals, budgets and timetables for related projects.


Requirements

- 10 - 15 years of experience in retail design, interior design/ hospitality design and/or exhibit design (design firm or internally with a national retailer).

- The ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously.

- Excellent ability to verbalize and sell a concept to external brands and retailers.

- Strong visual presentation skills including perspective sketching, graphic design and rendering (hand or computer generated)

- Strong knowledge of retail design/hospitality/ exhibit design in terms fixture design, lighting, finishes, visual merchandising and signage.

- Industrial Design, architectural or interior space environments degree.

- Strong abilities in Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Microsoft Office, Sketch up.
