The Clinical Informatics Coordinator (CIC) is a Registered Professional Nurse responsible to the Associate Director.  The CIC is a key technical member of the CPRS team that is responsible for implementing a computerized patient medical record.

Major Duties

The Clinical Informatics Coordinator (CIC) is a Registered Professional Nurse responsible to the Associate Director.  The CIC is a key technical member of the CPRS team that is responsible for implementing a computerized patient medical record in the El Paso VA Health Care System.  He/she participates in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating multi, and inter-disciplinary Automated Data Clinical Packages.  Provides operational and technical support to the clinical and administrative staff that includes on-going Automated Data Packages (ADP) training, customizing packages to maximize end-user benefits of packages, and day-to-day problem solving. The CIC is knowledgeable of the Health Care System’s organization, policies, procedures, and resources.  Incumbent works with colleagues throughout the facility in a team oriented, collaborative environment, utilizing principles of performance improvement.

SPECIAL SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  Incumbent must have the ability to teach nursing information technology (IT) competencies, and assess the nursing IT competency of others.  Demonstrates clinical leadership in determining the educational needs employees necessary to improve competency.  Demonstrates the ability to make decisions utilizing principles of clinical management and quality improvement and works effectively with others.  Assesses, plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates IT programs for facility clinical programs, applies current concepts and findings from clinical research and/or studies of education programs and practice, as it relates to clinical activities that further professional growth and development.  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with professional, administrative and technical staff at all levels.  Incumbent must possess knowledge in professional nursing for young adult, adult, and elderly patients. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:  Although the work is primarily sedentary, as a registered nurse, may be required to handle patients.   A complete functional statement is available for review in Human Resources Management Service.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:  The incumbent must be a citizen of the United States.  Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the state, and was accredited by NLNAC, or CCNE at the time the program was completed by the applicant.  The nurse will have a current, full active and unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.  Proficient in written/spoken English.  Must meet physical standards for employment.

Nurse II Education and Experience Requirements:  A BSN degree from a nationally accredited program or an ADN in Nursing with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with approximately 2-3 years of experience; OR a Master’s Degree in nursing or related field with BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience.


You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
