The VA Black Hills Health Care System (VA BHHCS) is located in the beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota, where we are known for our blue skies, pine forests, rich history, moderate climate and friendly western hospitality. VA BHHCS provides primary and secondary medical and surgical care, along with residential rehabilitation treatment program (RRTP) services, extended nursing home care and tertiary psychiatric inpatient care services, for veterans residing in South Dakota and portions of Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. Care is delivered through the Fort Meade (near Sturgis) and Hot Springs VA Medical Centers, as well as through a number of community based outpatient and rural outreach clinics. VA Black Hills is part of VA Midwest Health Care Network.
Major Duties
DUTIES: The incumbent serves as the coordinator of the Compensated Work Therapy program. He/she has full responsibility and accountability for all aspects (planning, developing, organizing, and operating) of the clinical programs under his/her purview, i.e., CWT, Transitional Residences (TR), Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans (DCHV), and the Homeless Grant Per Diem Program (GPD). The incumbent exercises full supervisory authority over a multi-disciplinary staff, located at several different geographical locations. He/she functions as a professionally trained Social Worker, assessing and providing treatment to veterans with a variety of mental health diagnoses. Position is subject to a one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Have a Master’s degree in social work from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education AND
Be licensed or certified at the Master’s level to independently practice social work in a state.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GS-12: Have a minimum of two full years of professional (post-Master’s Degree) experience, with one year equivalent to at least the GS-11 level. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and have demonstrated broad knowledge of social work and superior skill and judgment in professional practice. A clinical setting is a hospital or clinic, either medical or psychiatric, a residential treatment center or any other type of facility where social work participates in collaborative treatment and is identified with the medical profession (i.e. physicians). Social work experience obtained prior to completion of the requirements for the master’s degree is NOT qualifying.
Have a Master’s degree in social work from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Must be licensed or certified at the Master's level to independently practice social work in a state.
