Incumbent provides nursing care for patients through the life span in the ambulatory care setting.  Performs patient assessment through collection and analysis of data to determine initial heath care need, which may include pre – and post-screening medical charts.  Provides health care and treatment to improve patient’s health status, ensuring the patient understands the risks and benefits of the treatment/care plan.

Major Duties

Incumbent provides nursing care for patients through the life span in the ambulatory care setting.  Performs patient assessment through collection and analysis of data to determine initial heath care need, which may include pre – and post-screening medical charts.  Provides health care and treatment to improve patient’s health status, ensuring the patient understands the risks and benefits of the treatment/care plan.  As part of the health care team, incumbent is familiar with the defined process criteria for referral, transfer, and discharge of the patient to appropriate care services (Continuum of Care).  Participates on performance improvement teams and other committees as assigned, and participates in surveillance, prevention, and control of infection.   Monitors work processes for quality and quantity and makes recommendations for necessary corrective action.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Candidates must have had experience as described below.  Your description of work experience, level of responsibility, and accomplishments will be used to determine that you meet these requirements.

Basic Requirements:  Provide transcripts and proof of current/active licensure.

Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.  Submit a copy of current registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:   In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements applicants must meet the requirement(s) below -

GS-09:  2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master’s or equivalent degree –OR- 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7 level.  Transcripts must be submitted to verify education requirement is met.

Evaluation of Education:  Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled.

Evaluation of Experience:  Experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
