Major Duties
You will assist the dentist in the treatment of patients requiring complex restorative and difficult oral surgery, oral pathology, prosthodontic, periodontic, endodontic, pedodontic or orthodontic treatments. This assistance is provided at chair side or in the operating room. You will receive and schedule patients for treatment in dental clinic and/or operating room. You will obtain and record information related to medical history of patient, routes patients for medical tests and services when required. You will obtain and store dental and special supplies. You will prepare sterile trays and packs for a wide variety of dental procedures. You will clean and sterilize materials, instruments and equipment. You will instruct other dental assistants in the clinical aspects of endodontics, periodontics, pedodontics, restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, oral surgery or oral pathology. You will provide chair side assistance in general dentistry.

General Schedule Applicants must show that they have 1 year of specialized experience in the next lower payband or GS equivalent. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Best qualified candidates must show experience in the following areas: 1) Experience with materials, and procedures used in the specialized and general fields of dentistry procedures, to make preparations, provide chair side assistance, and give patient instructions. 2) Experience with setting up equipment and make preparations for specific procedure to be performed. 3) Experience with dental anatomy and bone structure of the face, and skill in operating room equipment in order to take x-rays.The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Your pay will be set within the range specified in this vacancy announcement and will be based on your qualification, education, experience, training, and availability of funds.
