1. Ability to do the work of a journeyman carpenter without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT)
A. I have above average ability to perform independently a variety of the complex tasks of the carpentry trade in compliance with instructions contained in specifications, blueprints, sketches, and oral instructions with minimum supervision. Tasks include: Altering, repairing, fabricating and modifying items and structures such as framework, rafters, doors, finished flooring systems, finished ceiling systems, painting, interior trim and detailing, windows, exterior trim, framing systems, drywall installation and finishing. Planing and completing projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation. Makeing repairs to concrete curbs, roads, walks, and asphalt parking lots. Using, operating, maintaining, adjusting, and servicing tools common to the carpentry trade. Interpreting and checking plans, blueprints, and sketches to compute, check, and ensure consistency of dimensions; making templates and patterns; selecting appropriate machines, tools and techniques and plans the sequence of the work. Making and issuing keys, maintaining records of issuance and coding and installing lock cores. Repairing locks, hardware, and space doors and maintaing lock/key supplies. I have provided expert guidance to other Carpenters as a Lead Carpenter or have been a supervisor.For each task in the following group, choose the statement from the list below that best describes your experience and/or training. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Your resume and supporting documentation will be compared to your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to capture the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The evaluation you receive is based on your responses to the questionnaire and is a measure of the degree to which your background matches the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of this position.

Pre-Employment Medical Examination
The selected applicant for this position must pass a pre-employment physical examination given by the selecting VA Medical Center, at no cost to the selectee.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is:

Physical effort:
Makes repairs and installations using ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. This requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and kneeling. Work is in tiring and uncomfortable positions, frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools and equipment. Must be able to lift and/or carry 75 pounds.
Working conditions:
Works inside and outside, and work is usually dirty, dusty, hot or cold, greasy, noisy, and is sometimes performed during inclement weather. Occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, or burns, and is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
