One of world's premier advertising and marketing services firms is seeking an Entry Level Core Services Technician for a 6+ month contract position.
General Description:
The purposes of the Core Services Tech position are to:

Provide First and Second-Line Support and Escalation Management for server-based installations in the Enterprise Data Center.
Assist in the implementation of new hardware and software requirements, within the Enterprise Data Center, to comply with technical strategy.
Measure and analyze problem trends, as well as validate and communicate the need for process changes to maintain optimum customer support and satisfaction.
Enforce all standards and implement maintenance changes related to Core System technologies within the Enterprise Data Center.
Participate in a Shift Operations Team, providing a first point of contact in the day-to-day management and operations of the Enterprise Data Center.
Deliver technical and operational excellence within the Enterprise Data Center.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership

Ensure that problems are resolved in a consistent, timely and effective manner.
Ensure that calls are dispatched, escalated and resolved according to the procedure.
Coordinate between the on-site and phone-based teams to provide a seamless service to end-users, for both problems and requests.
Actively participate in developing an outstanding team.

Management of the Regional/Enterprise Data Center Function

Adhere to the Best Practices of the management of a 24x7 Data Center capable of supporting applications for the entire enterprise in multiple countries.
Apply and enforce standards for the server environment.
Monitor the operation of all devices and applications, taking corrective action when appropriate, and involving the right support organizations according to Problem Escalation procedures utilizing IPG standard monitoring toolset (HP Open View).
Ensure the critical up-time in compliance with service level agreements and applications requirements.
Deliver the operation of all devices and applications, including monitoring, backups, recovery, etc.
Perform all activities required for business continuity and application recovery.
Actively participate in the Change Management process.
Work closely with the Regional Core Systems team to anticipate and implement changes to the server environment required to meet Service Level Agreements for both reliability and responsiveness.
Monitor physical and data security in accordance with the overall security architecture.
Create, define and adhere to Data Center standards, management tools and processes in conjunction with defined architecture. Create and maintain documentation on Data Center configuration.
Adhere to personnel rotation and appropriate procedures to provide preventative maintenance checks and comply with service level agreements.

Business/Customer Orientation

In coordination with Enterprise Data Center Management:

Assist in the development and implementation of a capacity plan and its subsequent monitoring to ensure system availability in compliance with service levels.
Develop, implement and maintain Data Center service level agreements.

Change/Problem Management

Be responsible for:

Ensuring that Enterprise Data Center Management is aware of all issues, problems and concerns that correlate to a lack or potential lack of service within the data center.
Providing timely updates for all issues and problems, as well as reporting on root cause and future avoidance.

Maturity

Serve as a technical resource across all Server platforms within Enterprise Data Center.
Complete tasks independently/interdependently.
Be able to deal with complex issues and escalate as required.
Provide first point of contact for day-to-day Enterprise Data Center Operations.

Required Skills

Required Skills for this Entry Level Core Services Technician position include the following:
Education

Computing-related qualification: College and/or Technical institute training
MCSE and/or equivalent industry experience

Experience

2+ years of experience with NT4/Windows 2000/2003 Server and Advanced Server (or competitive equivalent products) in a “mission critical” environment of more than 5000 users, 20 sites and 100 servers
1+ years of experience with an Enterprise Mail solution in a “mission-critical” environment of more than 5000 users
1+ years of experience working within an Enterprise Server support environment

Core Knowledge

Working knowledge of Data center Operations practices
Good Technical Support skills
Strong Customer Service skills
Strong Problem Management skills

Critical Skills
Technical Expertise:

Good understanding of the Technology Infrastructure in general
Knowledge of:

Call Management
First and Second-level support

Good knowledge of Intel and/or Unix, as well as Mid-Tier systems and associated software products
Skill and experience with related platforms such as Gateways, Controllers and other distributed components, not limited to the following:

Windows 2000/2003 Server and Advanced Server
Windows NT4 Server
Windows 2000 Cluster Server
Enterprise Mail solutions
Systems Management solutions
TCP/IP (including WINS, DHCP DNS)
Web Server Technologies
Enterprise Backup solutions
Enterprise Helpdesk solutions
Anti-Virus solutions
Hardware installation and maintenance (including Hard Disks, Memory, Processors, RAID Controllers and other Interface Cards)

Able to synthesize disparate data, recognize underlying problems and develop creative solutions to address business problems.
Good knowledge of support processes, and Problem Management tools and procedures.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based, Customer Service-oriented environment.
