Job Listing: Process Metallurgist

PRIMARY JOB OBJECTIVE: Product Development. Evaluating and directing metallurgical related processes, procedures, and material pertinent to the manufacturing of product, ensuring quality and efficiency.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsible for the evaluation, recommendation, and implementation of new processes and product development.

Capable of such metallurgical tasks as:
1)Metallographic examination and analysis of processes for problem solving and metal flow
2)Physical metallurgy
3)Process metallurgy (present plus/including powder metallurgy and extrusion)
4)Assist lab with problems and procedures, as needed.

Participates in quality control and planning (i.e. – APQP, FMEAs) as outlined in the Engineering procedures.

Provide technical assistance for process problems and root causes.

Reviews customer complaints and follows through with corrective actions.

Assist with the material selection for tools.

Design and/or revise tooling, as required, for new jobs or to improve existing jobs.

Analyze product design proposals.

Prepares quotations and proposals to new customer designs.

Will process and review orders before entry into the manufacturing system.

Works closely with production departments, supervisors, and other employees to ensure efficient and safe operations. Works with other support departments providing information and/or assistance, as required.


Works under general supervision, keeping superior informed of any problems which affect the successful and timely completion of job assignments (verbal and written communication).

May assist in the training of new Engineering Department personnel.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This is not an all inclusive job description and there will be times that the position holder will be asked to perform miscellaneous other duties, as assigned, but not essential to this particular job.

QUALIFICATIONS

Four-year engineering degree in Metallurgy or Material Science; a minimum of five years manufacturing experience in a metal forming environment; preferably, in a non-ferrous metals (copper) environment. Experience with total quality programs.
