Field Communications/LAN Technician

This person will be supporting the Field Office for TEKsystem's client in the Shreveport, LA area. This company has a small office location in the city and most workers are typically operate in the field within 30-50 miles during the day. The majority of this position will entail User Support on the drilling rigs and is a hybrid between desktop/network support and communications support. Our client is acquiring more land and oil rigs in the area and will be growing substantially by the end of the year. This a 6 month contract-to-hire position with the strong chance to be brought on direct with the company well before the 6 month mark based off of performance.

Job Description

This person will assist with maintenance of the Local Area Network (LAN) and workstation environments; install hardware and software ensuring LAN security according to corporate guidelines; manage LAN performance; troubleshoot LAN problems; and perform other duties as assigned. There will be a focus on the wireless field communications support: handheld radios, antennas, etc. The ideal candidate will be a complete “jack of all trades”. The job description here is ideal, but our client knows that someone will need to train up on some of these specific technologies. If candidates have solid wireless experience, networking experience and have served in field support roles, they would be a consideration.
- This position requires a background in desktop support: Windows Server 2003, Active Directory, Citrix (optional)
- Basic office machines, personal computers and related software such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
- Telephony knowledge: basic phone systems
- Antennae Work/Maintenance (basically everything a Network requires to communicate)
- Will work with and monitor SCADA systems – must have a knowledge of SCADA (does need to be an expert by any means).
- Payson Satellite Systems Support; installing, pointing + shooting as well as repair/maintenance.
- Cabling experience (CAT5, CAT6), splicing, punchdowns, terminations
- A huge plus would be someone with experience in DIMS. DIMS software is a fully integrated and comprehensive database, communications and engineering data management system for drilling, completions and well servicing.
- This person will travel within 30-50+ miles in and around the Shreveport area. They will be either provided a company vehicle or will be able to expense mileage on their own vehicle.

Technical Environment

- All Microsoft Platforms: Active Directory, MS Server/Server 2003/Server 2000, Desktop: MS XP/2003 (rolled out in SMS).
- Radios Supported: Motorola, Cisco Aeronet, Alvarion Radios
- Satellite Support: Payson Satellite Units

Interview Info

The first interview with the client would be a phone screen. The second would be an in-person in either the Shreveport office.
