Our client, a developer of roof integrated solar products is looking for an Applications Engineering Manager to join their team.
On a day to day basis, this Applications Engineering Manager will develop optimized PV system designs tailored to specific buildings that incorporate our client's solar products, executing and documenting the required field tests of current products, assessing PV system component suppliers and products, and documenting product application know-how into training presentations and manuals.
The applications engineering manager will support the products certification activities for markets outside the US. This individual will also support our client's design requirements, distributors and installer partners, providing product technical and applications support.
The position will be based in Irvine.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Design optimized and cost effective grid connected PV systems (module layout, array design, inverter and junction boxes) that result in a competitive advantage. Generate one-line diagrams and roof layouts as needed.
- Assess and select potential Balance of System (BOS) components based on components’ performance and installed cost effectiveness.
- Develop and document product application guidelines their product line; develop installation instruction manuals for existing and new products.
- Develop product support solutions for solar installers using our client's products, including project design support tools, training curriculum and delivery plans.
- Execute long-term testing protocols for product line at company’s testing facility.
- Provide design and provide technical project design and product support to solar installers using our client's products.
- Conduct product training sessions as needed.
- Support product certification initiatives for current products and interface with third party certification laboratories as needed.
- Review current product designs and specifications and look for opportunities to improve performance and/or reduce costs.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
- Five+ years experience with photovoltaic (PV) systems.
- Extensive experience in design, applications development and testing solar products or other on-site power generation systems.
- Experience in electrical power distribution system design, including one-line diagrams.
- Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCad, Solidworks, MSProject and other design and product development tools.
- Ability to thrive in a start-up environment, with limited direction and broad responsibilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer license in the State of California
Fluent in a European language is a plus (Mandarin, German or French)

Rate: $60,000 to $85,000 per Year
