Overview:
Skilled in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and data migration tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). The individual must be able to perform analysis, organization, categorization, assimilation, and integration of data, business rules for database objects for source-to-target data mappings from multiple RDBMS’s and other sources to a Microsoft SQL Server database. The individual must possess a sound understanding of database administration principles with regard to database performance, configuration and the appropriate level of denormalization.

The Database Administrator– Database Designer creates and maintains database objects within the database based upon physical data models and other specifications provided. The Database Administrator - Database Designer migrates data from source RDBMS’s to databases on the MS SQL Server 2005 platform and has functional skills in Object/Relational mapping and web services, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web Services Description Language (WSDL).

The Level II Database Administrator- Database Designer is a position requiring from 5-9+ years of demonstrated database design experience using Microsoft SQL Server, structured query language (SQL), Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS),data migration tools (Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)).

Skill Requirements:
Knowledge of and skill in applying
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
- Data migration tools such as Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). Informatica tools a plus.
- Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Object/Relational mapping and web services, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web Services Description Language (WSDL)
- Analysis, organization, categorization, assimilation, and integration of data, business rules for database objects for source to target data mappings from multiple RDBMS’s and other sources to a Microsoft SQL Server database.
- Architecting and communicate source to target data mappings conversions.
- Data modeling with an emphasis on the design and development of physical data models using named industry standard tools such as Computer Associate’s AllFusion Database Designer (ERwin).
- Sound understanding of database administration principles with regard to database performance, configuration and the appropriate level of denormalization.
- Data management standards and guidelines.
- Database security
- Intra-team and Inter-team communication and collaboration.
- Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel.

Sufficient to:
- Create and maintain database objects (tables, indexes, views, triggers, stored procedures, database users, roles, etc.) in MS SQL Server. Knowledge of other RDBMS platforms (e.g. Oracle and Sybase) is a plus.
- Use Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) and/or SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and other data conversion, data loading solutions.
- Utilize Object/Relational mapping.
- Utilize web services, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web Services Description Language (WSDL) using Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition.
- Analyze source to target data needs to create database objects and provide data mapping for migration solutions in collaboration with application developers, other database administrators on simple to very complex migrations while ensuring that data and business rules are upheld and processing occurs efficiently and securely.
- Architect, communicate, and implement data conversion and migration solutions from multiple RDBMS and sources to Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Perform physical data modeling including:
- Design and modification of physical data model including appropriate use of normalization/denormalization, referential integrity; primary and foreign key assignments, and physical-only object definitions.
- Update physical data model using the ERwin data modeling tool.
- Able to forward engineer data model to create DDL and or database objects.
- Apply sound database administration to enhance database performance, including changes to database configuration, the appropriate creation of indexes, denormalization, etc.
- Understand the differences in data modeling and database performance optimizations between OLTP and OLAP databases.
- Follow published standards, procedures, and guidelines for abbreviations, acronyms, class words and naming standards and data model reviews. Ensures that the physical data model design includes standard database object names, referential integrity, appropriate constraints, foreign key assignments and consistent/appropriate use of surrogate keys and denormalization. Ensure database security is administered in accordance to standards and guidelines established by the Cyber Security office, the Chief Technical Officer (CTO), and published data administration data layer standards and guidelines.
- Communicates with business and technical staff:
- Negotiate priorities and resolve requirement conflicts among various stakeholders
- Communicate with a wide variety of technical and business experts in both individual and group settings using email and presentations.
- Provides coordination between business clients, application development personnel and database administrators.
- Works with developers to troubleshoot Transact-SQL and DBMS performance problems.
- Responsible for the communication and coordination during the migration of database objects from development to test and from test to production environment.
- Communicate with a wide variety of technical and business experts in both individual and group settings using email, self-generated documentation and presentations.
- Works with developers to mitigate data insufficiencies while educating for future improvement.
- Maintain documentation using Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.

Additional Skills Desired:
Knowledge of and skill in applying
- Knowledge of SQL Server 2008 features is a plus.
- Microsoft .NET is a plus.
- Significant data modeling experience
- Extract Transformation and Load (ETL) tools.

Sufficient to:
- Create and modify data models:
- With experience doing data modeling with Computer Associate’s AllFusion Database Designer (ERwin) version 4.1.4.
- By deriving physical data models from a logical data model.
- By reverse engineering a physical data model from a physical database.
- Information Engineering (IE) modeling notation.
- Develop migrations with Informatica.
