POSITION: Sr. Project Engineer - Renewable Energy
LOCATION: Requires relocation to Arizona but a lot of the field work will be done in Southern California.
SUMMARY:
The Sr. Project Engineer will manage design-build engineering, procurement and construction from initial site design through a fully-operational concentrated solar power plant including preparing the site engineering and BOP design plan, performing required site studies to support BOP engineering and agency filings, and coordinating the preparation of the engineering data requirements for an Application For Certification that will be filed with the California Energy Commission and the Bureau of Land Management for approval of the projects.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
The Sr. Project Engineer will be working closely with the Product Engineering organization and other strategy suppliers and contractors to ensure that equipment design and balance of plant (BOP) are properly coordinated and integrated for ease of installation, assembly, serviceability, and optimum life cycle costs (including O&M).
Site and plant engineering (civil, environmental, electrical, and mechanical), grading and drainage site design, hydraulic & hydrology studies, site access, site contour mapping and survey work, geologic and geotechnical studies, electrical interconnection with the grid, permits, certification of plant design, trade studies on BOP design, preparation of specifications, preparation of bid packages, procurement, negotiation of BOP contracts, processing change orders, and construction management through to startup.
The Sr. Project Engineer will create project plans, coordinate bid packages, monitor project progress, provide full project financial management, and manage the overall project for efficiency, cost, and schedule.
Work with our utility customers with whom we hold power purchase contracts, providing monthly status reports on our progress of meeting project milestones, working with BLM on our ROW Grant Applications, working with CAISO on our transmission interconnect requests and working with the California Energy Commission with whom we will be filing permits.
Accurately estimate budgets and schedules for each phase of your program utilizing a project management software
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science degree in a related engineering discipline (e.g., electrical, mechanical, environmental)
-Strong understanding of project management and project controls of power generation, cogeneration, renewable, or CHP plants
-Expertise in engineering and construction methodology (including basic trades) and the associated financial aspects
-Extensive experience managing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts
-Demonstration of cost estimating/budget projections and ability to review schematic drawings and understand architectural and engineering drawings
-Ability to use software for project scheduling and tracking, such as MS-Project, Primavera, Timberline, and other common PC software applications
Other Qualifications of Interest:
-Masters degree in an applicable field and certification as Project Management Professional (PMP)
-Familiarity with California electrical power projects (utilities, state agencies, etc)
-Experience in renewable power projects such as solar, wind, or geothermal
-Experience in grid-intertie issues such as grid protection systems, power factor control, low-voltage ride-through systems, etc.
-Able to drive through detail to see the big picture
-Familiarity with applicable sections of NEC, UL, NFPA, IEEE, and other basic codes/standards
