The following certifications are REQUIRED for this position: Fire Fighter II, Apparatus Driver Operator Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator Aerial, HAZMAT Technician.Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) eligibles. All U. S. citizens.

Major Duties

As Firefighter-Paramedic, administers advanced life support emergency medical care to the sick or injured. As Lead Paramedic, assures work performed by Firefighter (EMT's) is accomplished IAW instructions. Performs the following duties: Paramedic; Firefighter; Driver Operator; HAZMAT Technician; & Rescue Technician. Paramedic: Responds to accidents and emergencies involving injury, illnesses, hazardous environments, etc. Fire Protection: Responds to alarms and combats fire requiring firefighting tasks of moderate to severe difficulty. Driver-Operator: Drives/operates fire department vehicles of significant complexity to include: Fire Engines, Aerial Ladder, ALS Ambulance, Hazardous Materials Response unit, Support equipment, Rescue boats and forklifts. HAZMAT Technician: Member of the hazardous material/weapons of mass destruction emergency response team and structural firefighting crew. Fire Prevention: Performs fire protection inspection to detect and eliminate common fire hazards.

General Schedule SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:




Experience sufficient to make independent assessment of emergency situations and select from a large number of procedures the most appropriate procedure for the given situation. Ability to resolve problems of the team and to perform day-to-day work on own initiative. Ability to independently perform duties required in response to situations involving Fire, Emergency Medical Services, Hazardous Materials Incidents, Rescue Operations to include but not limited to Confined Space, High Angle, River and Other types.




CONDITIONS of EMPLOYMENT:




1) The following certifications are required for this position: Fire Fighter II, Apparatus Driver Operator Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator Aerial, HAZMAT Technician.




2) A current, valid state drivers license and Government license is mandatory for this position.




3) Incumbent must have received and then maintain EMT-Paramedic license from the State of Alaska or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.




4) This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program) and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.




5) Designated Key Position - Position is designated as a "Key Position" in accordance with AR 690-11. This position shall not be vacated during a national emergency or during mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the agency to function effectively. Because of the essential nature of this position, it should not be filled by Ready Reservists or military retirees with re-call obligations to preclude such positions from being vacated during a mobilization.
