Major Duties
As the definitive information source and recognized authority for marriage and family therapy issues, you systemically define assessment and treatment issues for CMHS. You provide policy, develop programs, plan and generate theories regarding clinical treatment of patients with complex medical and behavioral problems. Provides direct therapeutic services including assessment, individual and group child therapy, individual and group adult therapy, family therapy and couples therapy. Assess mental status, motivation, concerns, goals and impact of diagnosis on marital/family relationships so as to identify areas needing resolution for successful treatment to occur in compliance with a complicated medical regimen. Responsible for clinical supervision of intake interviews and ensures that psychosocial/therapeutic assessments and treatment are made. Coordinates/Plans the initial referral or identification of marital and/or family therapy clients.

Basic Requirements: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field OR four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Also requires 1 year of specialized equivalent to the next lower pay band. Specialized experience must demonstrate knowledge of the basic personality structure and relationship dynamics in relationship to the development of behavioral and relational patterns, mechanisms and symptoms; skill and ability to apply the principles, knowledge and practice of professional marriage and family therapy in providing social diagnosis, treatment, research, consultation and preventive/therapeutic social service programs for individuals, couples, families, groups and organizations in the military community; professional skill and knowledge in behavioral sciences (e.g., psychology, social work, guidance counseling, marriage and family therapy and counseling, etc.) to evaluate and treat eligible patients; skill and ability to conduct psychosocial evaluation on each client; skill and ability to provide typical services to clients with difficult and complex problems of personal adjustment or vocational rehabilitation; skill and ability to advise and consult other staff and officials in the specialized area of marriage & family therapy to include comprehensive psychosocial evaluations, diagnosis and treatment with special emphasis in the areas of combat/operational stress, command consultation, suicide risk assessment, drug/alcohol addiction/abuse, behavior change of the client within a systems oriented epistemology, and may also include personality and cognitive assessment, use and interpretation of instruments uncovering systemic and psychosocial aspects of pathology; sufficient knowledge to directly evaluate the most difficult/complex cases in CMHS to determine appropriate placement or referral to other agency; skill and ability to use research techniques/skills in order to identify patient coping mechanisms through review of patient documentation, statistics and questionnaires; and knowledge to ensure cases are appropriately referred to programs such as SWS, FAP, ASAP, MFT, psychology and psychiatry.The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Your pay will be set within the range specified in this vacancy announcement and will be based on your qualification, education, experience, training, and availability of funds.
