About the Position: NCCPA CERTIFICATION AND STATE LICENSE REQUIRED.



The incumbent performs a variety of professional direct health care clinical duties within the field of general medicine. Assignments include a wide range of activities including assessing, planning, evaluating and modifying the treatment of patients in various locations throughout the MTF; and assisting an attending physician in delivering health care for inpatients.

A PRE-APPOINTMENT PHYSICAL IS REQUIRED.



SHIFT WORK IS REQUIRED: TOD VARIES/SOME 10 HOUR DAYS MAY BE REQUIRED; WEEKENDS MAY BE REQUIRED.



HEPATITIS B REQUIRED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF EOD.



RANDOM URINALYSIS IS REQUIRED.

Major Duties

Serves as a direct primary health care provider in the capacity of a credentialled physician assistant to provide primary care services to patients ranging in ages from 1-2 years of age through geriatric. The incumbent serves in a Primary Health Care Clinic (e.g. Inpatient, Outpatient or Emergency Room) of a military medical treatment facility. Duties include case management for a patient population of approximately 1,500 or more with responsibility for the independent examination, diagnosis and treatment within personal credentials and privileges delineated by the MTF. Provides leadership in comprehensive primary care services and auxiliary practices in general medicine to military and their family members and retirees in the Fort Leonard Wood Community.

General Schedule A broad background of knowledge of the medical environment, practices, and procedures such as would be required by a Bachelors degree in a health care occupation such as nursing, medical technology, or physical therapy, or by 3 years of responsible and progressive health care experience such as medical corpsman, nursing assistant, or medical technician; and successful completion of a certificate or diploma program of at least 12 months, including clinical training or preceptorship, specifically designed for professional-caliber physicians assistants that provided the knowledge and ability required to take a detailed medical history, to conduct a physical examination, to follow observation procedures, to order and perform diagnostic and therapeutic OR Successful completion of a full 4-year program for physician assistants leading to a Bachelors degree. The course of study or training must be approved by a nationally-recognized professional body such as the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or by a panel of physicians established by a Federal agency for this purpose. IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE ABOVE BASIC REQUIREMENT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MUST BE MET: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify applicants must possess 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing professional caliber medical work as a physicians assistant with minimal supervision, including exercising judgement in integrating and interpreting diagnostic findings and in determining the need for referral to a physician. EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Applicants who have completed 3 full years of a curriculum in an accredited medical school leading to the Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy may qualify at the GS-11 level. **Regardless of the method that is used to apply, applicants must remember to provide the following information:*1.
