Major Duties

Selectee responds to routine and non-technical requests for information such as status of reports and suspense dates. Receives incoming correspondence, screens material prior to distribution for suspense dates, establishes controls, and follows up for supervisor. Schedules appointments and makes arrangements for time, participants, and location of meetings. Receives visitors and telephone calls to the Shop, determines the nature of requests and directs callers to appropriate staff. Maintains subject matter files and records. Sets up and maintains logs showing the status of actions and correspondence. Makes complete travel arrangements for large conferences. Uses word and data processing programs to prepare various documents such as official correspondence, memoranda, reports, spreadsheets. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate possession of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower career level, or substitution education and meet the proficiency requirement as described below. 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position.  This type of experience would include performing administrative duties such as typing correspondence, memos, reports, and similar material using word-processing features and software functions. Experience would also include, making travel arrangements, scheduling meetings and handling a variety of request from staff and/or management officials.

 OR 

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.  This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.  One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school.

OR

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of experience and successfully completed post-high school education are also qualifying.  Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience.  One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: You must type at least 40 words per minute.  You must indicate your current typing speed on your application. Failure to provide typing speed will result in an ineligible rating.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Selectees may be required to obtain a security clearance, and meet all certification requirements (depending on the position to be filled) prior to appointment. Some positions may require successful completion of a physical examination, agility test, pre-employment drug test, and/or participation in the Anthrax vaccine immunization program if applying for an emergency essential position. Selectees required to meet one or more of these employment conditions before appointment will receive a tentative offer of employment. An offer of employment may be rescinded if the selectee fails to report to any of the scheduled appointments, fails the medical/agility/drug test, lacks the certification requirements, or is unable to obtain a security clearance. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Selection for this position is contingent upon proof of U.S. Citizenship.  Candidates selected must enroll in the Direct Deposit of Pay/Electronic Fund Transfer program.  A background investigation may be required.  Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify that they have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law.
