About the Position: The position is located at Water Reed Army Medical Center, residual community in Northwest Washington, DC. There is easy accessibility to public transportation. Technical supervision is nominal. The research works under broad administrative supervision, generally limited to approval of staffing, funds, and facilities, and broad program policies.

Major Duties
Applies comprehensive knowledge of bio-statistical theory to adapt, combine & develop statistical methodologies. Applies advance statistical theories in conducting medical research to recommend improvements in study design and data collection. Primary responsibility is to support researchers with consultation, evaluation & analysis of statistical application of protocols. Conduct sample size estimation & statistical power analysis to determine the minimal number of subjects required for a study. Apply statistical theory, principles & techniques to biomedical disciplines & contribute to the plan/preparation of clinical research protocols. Performs statistical analysis for the data collected from the approved research. Develops and implements statistical methodology and procedures in supporting clinical and laboratory research programs. Conducts training & develops computer programs.
Evaluates statistical validity of research protocols presented to the committees for approval.

General Schedule Basic Requirements for this position:
Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
OR
Combination of education and experience--courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Your pay will be set within the range specified in this vacancy announcement and will be based on your qualification, education, experience, training, and availability of funds.
