About the Position: Makes decisions on work problems by subordinate supervisors; evaluates subordinate supervisors and serves as the rater reviewing official on evaluations of subordinate non-supervisors and serves as the reviewing official on evaluations of subordinate non-supervisory employees rated by subordinate supervisors. Responds to various calls for law enforcement services at all levels to include crimes in progress, citizen complaints, and emergency situations to include natural and manmade disasters. Coordinates emergency responses between assigned patrol officers, fire, and other emergency units and responds to calls concerning reports of violations or complaints. Performs all duties of a police officer by patrolling area of responsibility, responding to citizen calls for service, engaging in traffic control and serves as a deterrent to crime by being present in the area and through observation, inspection and investigation.

Major Duties
Serves as Captain of the Patrol Division, a Branch within the Law Enforcement Division of the Directorate of Emergency Services with the overall responsibility for the command and control for all law enforcement patrol operations in a geographic area of responsibility on a major military installation. Responsible for the operational status of all police officers assigned to the branch that are involved in law enforcement, traffic control, Police Desk Operations, and patrol activities. Performs duties as a supervisory federal police officer performing law enforcement duties in an area of exclusive federal jurisdiction and areas of concurrent jurisdiction with Fairfax County, Virginia. Primary responsibility of the position is to ensure compliance with and enforce a full range of Federal, State, local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they pertain to law enforcement work, and the supervision of others engaged in such duties. General Schedule One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (or equivalent) is required. Highly qualified candidates will show in their resumes that they possess specialized experience such as:
Knowledge of Federal State, military and local laws, statutes, codes and regulations.
Extensive knowledge of investigative techniques, methods and procedures to investigate crimes, collect and safeguard evidence and secure the crime scene, perform surveillance tasks, develop leads, develop information networks, evaluate evidence and laboratory findings, etc.
Knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures for supervising civilian personnel (performance standards and appraisals, personnel actions, safety, security, EEO, etc.)
Knowledge of numerous reporting requirements and skill in completing forms applicable to a wide variety of incidents. Skill in this area is vital to the successful outcome of law enforcement activities, apprehension, arrests, conviction of persons involved in criminal activities.
Skill in using a variety of sophisticated police equipment and weapons such as revolver, rifle, PR 24 baton, mace, tear gas, cameras, and crime scene equipment for collecting evidence, prints, castings, samples and computerized police information systems.
