Major Duties
The incumbent serves as a Structures Aerospace Engineer with responsibility for applying state-of-the-art engineering knowledge and expertise to the certification and ongoing continued operational safety administration of transport category and small airplanes. As Structures Engineer, directly participates in the planning, developing, reviewing, and testing associated with major domestic airplane certification projects and/or continuing aircraft airworthiness programs. Assures compliance with the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) regarding aircraft structures. All qualifications and experience must be met by the closing date.

Qualifications
Primary Method: Successful completion of a full four-year professional engineering curriculum leading to a bachelor''s or higher degree in engineering in an accredited college or university. To be acceptable the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics;(b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties);(g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. In addition to the basic requirements all candidates must demonstrate one year of SPECIALIZED experience equivalent to the next lower grade in the Federal Government. SPECIALIZED experience is experience which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. 1. Ability to apply aerospace engineering principles in the area of aircraft structures, particularly in regard to small aircraft in order to evaluate aircraft designs and modifications. (Applicant must possess demonstrated expertise in composite materials, design of detail parts to complex structures, static, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis of composite structures. The applicant must have the ability to evaluate aircraft designs for compliance with the applicable regulations such as use of materials, design and construction, proof of strength, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis to evaluate continued operational safety issues from design to field support of aircraft in operation; experience with aircraft loads that covers analytical development, testing validation including wind tunnel, flight and ground testing, and presentation of loads data for structural analysis.)

One year probationary period required
Permanent Change in Station expenses will be paid (actual expense method).
Partial Relocation expenses will be paid to non-federal employees.
