<p>A full-time vacancy exists for a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the Behavioral Health Service Line.  The incumbent will be assigned to an acute inpatient unit.</P>

Major Duties

1.      Is clinically accountable to the physician preceptor.2.     Effectively communicates with healthcare providers, patient and families.3.     Assess the health status of patients by obtaining history and completing physical examination of patients admitted to the inpatient unit.4.      Evaluates and monitors medical problems, consults with the medical physician covering the unit to ensure medical problems are addressed and the patients receive appropriate care.5.     Uses CPRS to write admission orders, discharge orders, medications, diagnostic tests, therapies, labs and enter consults in consultation with the physician preceptor.6.      Completes all patient and family teaching in an effective manner.7.     Completes discharge summaries and all patient documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with medical center and The Joint Commission policies for completeness and inclusion of necessary information.8.     The tour of duty for the position will be predominately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday, however the incumbent will be required to cover other inpatient areas in Behavioral Health for periods of leave of other physician extenders.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner:



a.             Citizen of the United States.

b.             MSN from an NLN accredited nursing program required.

c.              ANA certification as a Nurse Practitioner required.

d.             Minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience required. 

e.             Clinical experience as a CRNP for at least 1 year required.  (3 or more years preferred).

f.                Demonstrates interpersonal skills, decision making abilities and solid clinical expertise.

g.             Demonstrates organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work.

h.              Demonstrates effective communication skills and ability to function as a team member within a multidisciplinary environment.

i.                Current state license and certification.

j.                ACLS Certification (preferred).

k.              Authorization for prescriptive authority (preferred).

QUALIFICATIONS – Physician Assistant:



a. A bachelor’s degree from a PA training program, which is certified by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA); OR



b.  Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration, which is certified by the CAHEA and a bachelor’s degree in a health care occupation or a health related science; OR



c.  Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration, which is certified by the CAHEA, and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist or medical technician.  The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.  In addition, Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA) is required for employment within the VA.  This requirement does not apply to non-certified Physician Assistants on the VA rolls as of March 12, 1993.



d. Physical Standards – Must be physically and mentally capable of satisfactorily performing the duties of this assignment.



e.      English Language Proficiency – CRNPs/PAs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.



f.        Experience and/or interest in working with psychiatric patients.



g.      Authorization for prescriptive authority (preferred).


You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

You must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test before you can be appointed into this position.

You must have a certification, licensure, or registration credentials in nurse practitioner/physician assistant for this position.
