Our client is currently seeking a Botanist/Wetland Biologist for their Santa Ana, CA office.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as an environmental biologist for botanical and wetland resource assessment, management planning, and monitoring.
- Conduct resource analysis using appropriate methodologies for land and resource management planning, ecological restoration or mitigation, and environmental permitting.
- Provide technical support for natural resources management plans, resource-specific environmental effects analyses and land use planning, regulatory compliance documentation, and tasks or project management.
Experiences Requirements:
- Knowledge or expertise in applicable federal, state, and local regulations for the management of botanical resources, aquatic systems, and wetlands is desired.
- It is not required but a plus if the candidate has proficiency in basic GPS operations and GIS applications, and terrestrial and aquatic wildlife species-habitat surveys.
- Technical proficiency and demonstrated experience in the following specific areas: (1) botanical surveys for rare and special status species; (2) vegetation community inventory and mapping, and species-habitat evaluation and monitoring; (3) wetland identification and delineation using vegetation, soil, and hydrology parameters; and (4) plants and wetlands-related studies and analyses for regulatory compliance/permitting.
- Working knowledge of bioregion-specific natural communities and ecosystem processes, plants and wetlands identification and ecology, biological or hydrogeomorphic-based wetland assessment methods (including USACE 1987 Wetlands Delineation Manual), and biostatistical analysis. Strong technical writing, verbal communication (interpersonal and presentation), and computer software skills.
Skills Required:
- Ability to present data orally and visually using creative techniques.
- Ability to present data in concise reports and memos.
- Able to educate and interact with the public.
- Implementation of GIS maps for project analysis.
- Knowledge of Arcview and/or GIS software packages and Microsoft Word and Excel.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (CFR 1910.120).
Education Requirements:
- Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in botany, plant or wetland ecology, environmental biology, or a closely related discipline with strong field skills;
- Two to seven years of work experience in environmental biology and water and natural resources management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Meeting requirements for Wetland Professional In Training or Professional Wetland Scientist certification by Society of Wetland Scientist is desired.
