Job Listing: Histotechnologist

LOCATION
Ambulatory Surgical Center

JOB SUMARY
Reports to the office manager. No supervisory responsibilities unless otherwise assigned. Performs routine and special procedures. Keep the manager regularly informed about the work in progress and any problems that may occur.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

- Maintain and utilize quality control procedures to verify accuracy of procedures and equipment.
- Perform and maintain accurate documentation of specimens and protocols.
- Process fresh tissue with Mohs frozen section techniques.
- Familiar with operation and maintenance of microtome and cryostat.
- Accurately and properly label specimens and slides for each patient.
- Accurately file all tissues and slides.
- Maintain the laboratory and immediate work area in a clean and organized manner.
- Perform and document quality control on equipment. Notify manager of equipment malfunction.
- Perform other specific duties that are assigned by the lab manager as required.
- Maintain all documentation to assure CLIA compliance. Assist CLIA inspectors during required surveys.
- Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA Standard Precautions.
- Knowledge of and compliance with Chemical Hygiene Practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION
- HT(ASCP) registered or eligible or
High School graduate with two (2) years of experience in a histology or Mohs laboratory.

EXPERIENCE
1-2 years of experience in the field of histotechnology.

SKILLS
- Must have the skills equivalent to those taught in an accredited Histotechnology program.
- Ability to read and understand written protocols, lab reference manuals, and memos.
- Manage large volumes of work accurately.
- Effective interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS
Prolonged sitting, standing, bending. Handling specimens and supplies. Finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Correctable vision to 20/20 and hearing in an normal range for in-person and telephone communication. Weights and carries objects up to 30 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Sometimes busy, hectic, noisy and/or stressful with interruptions. Work in Chemical Environment.
Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemical and sharp objects.
