Aerotek's client, a large pharmaceutical company in the Philadelphia area, is looking for a skilled and qualified Biochemist to join their team.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold at a minimum a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry or a related discipline with an excellent academic history and 1-3 years experience. Preference will be given to any candidates who hold a Master of Science in biochemistry or a related discipline and who have had 1-3 years specific experience in the field of biomolecule purification. Mandatory skill sets: (1) working knowledge of chromatographic separation techniques for proteins including affinity, ion-exchange, reversed-phase, and size-based methodologies; (2) working knowledge of basic characterization techniques such as gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting, protein concentration determination, and UV-Visible spectroscopy. Additional desirable skills will include: (1) familiarity with separation methodologies such as membrane filtration, centrifugation, and selective precipitations; and (2) analytical skills such as spectroscopy and immunological techniques such as ELISA.
Responsibilities:
Incumbent will perform research under the direction of a senior scientist into the development and execution of processes for the purification of proteins derived from native or recombinant expression systems. Primary responsibilities will include: (1) development of scaleable purification processes, (2) providing and formulating purified proteins for evaluation in downstream animal models, and (3) analysis and characterization of purified proteins. Approximately 90% of the candidate’s responsibilities will involve hands-on bench work with experimental write-ups and data presentation comprising the remainder. The candidate will participate with the senior supervisor in aspects of experimental design and data interpretation.
