The Project Construction Engineer will be responsible for monitoring the construction work and supervising the quality control testing by the Construction Technician. This person will be responsible for making on-site decisions regarding the acceptability of the contractor’s means, methods and quality of construction. He (or she) must have familiarity with soil and concrete construction, must understand and be familiar with all ASTM testing methods for the quality control of soil and concrete construction. He (or she) must be able to identify soils and be knowledgeable regarding their use and placement location in earth embankment dams.

This person must have the communication skills and tact to deal with the construction contractors’ representative. They must be familiar with the terms and conditions of the contract agreement between the owner and contractor and must see that all parties comply with their responsibilities.

The person in this position will be expected to communicate frequently with the responsible Design Engineer for the project. Changed conditions in the field or any necessary modifications needed to the plans and specs will be communicate by the Project Construction Engineer to the Project Design Engineer and approval of these changes will be in consultation with the Project Design Engineer. The Project Construction Engineer shall be responsible for approval of all pay requests by the Contractors. The Project Construction Engineer will be responsible for preparing and approving any change orders needed to the contract.

In addition to the above duties, this person will be responsible for conducting all progress meetings on site and will help the Project Design Engineer in preparing a check list for the completion of the job. He must be in a position at the completion of construction to assure the Project Design Engineer that the completed work is consistent with the requirements of the plans and specifications.

Requirements:

0-5 years related field experience.

The person filling this position shall carry the title, Project Construction Engineer and shall be responsible for seeing that the Project is constructed in compliance with the plans and specifications. This person is required to hold an engineering degree from an accredited engineering school; has passed the E.I.T. examination, and has passed the P.E. exam or is working toward becoming a P.E. An exception to this requirement would be a person with extensive construction monitoring experience. This person must have an interest in, and familiarity with, heavy construction involving soils and concrete.

The job will require travel within the state of Georgia and on occasions may involve travel to adjacent states such as South Carolina and Alabama. Assignments may involve full-time residency on a dam project during construction. These assignments may range from a few months to over a year. The person filling this position must be willing to accept assignments to construction sites and be in a position to be away from home for several days at a time. Since most of the work is expected to be located within less than one-half day travel time from the Alpharetta Office, extended uninterrupted out of town stays from the Alpharetta Office are not expected.
