This position is located in the Harrisonburg, VA area. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently to properly assign classification codes for new patent applications with the proper United States Patent Codes (USPC) and International Patent Codes (IPC) in accordance with all existing USPTO and International guidance/documentation. Analyze and apply complex, competing and often confusing guidance/statutes/ references. Research, analyze, interpret, assimilate, document and justify classification based on experience, expertise, education, training, and academic knowledge in assigned Technical area; utilizing automated/ web based tools, internet, and in house references. Participate as a member of a larger team based on similar scientific fields, as the resident expert for assigned area of expertise. Collaborate on complex and/or difficult research and analysis coding functions.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics
- Semiconductor experience
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to schedule assigned workload
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to make informed decisions based on independent research
- Flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication, written and report writing skills
- Proactive in informing the team lead of significant issues
- Other duties as assigned
Job Duties:
- Classifying patents in to set categories in the semiconductor industry
- Heavy research and application of knowledge
- Team of 20 classification specialists in the semiconductor group working under on team lead
- Ability to classify between 10 and 16 patents daily
