Major Duties

In support of this mission, your duties will be:1.  Responsible for providing engineering assistance required for
     implementation of conservation practices.  Assistance provided includes
     planning, design, and installation of irrigation systems, animal waste
     systems, stockwater systems, stream restoration, and other conservation
     practices installed by clients with agriculture enterprises on cropland,
     pastureland, and rangeland.2.  Responsible for inspection and certification of common and complex
     conservation practices to ensure that they comply with NRCS standards
     and specifications.3.  Provides training to peers and field office staff in surveying, design,
     drafting, and the inspection/certification process.4.  Provides leadership and guidance in a manner that consistently
     demonstrates fairness, cooperation, and respect towards co-workers,
     office visitors, and all others in the performance of official business.5.  Assists the Senior Engineer with design reviews and annual quality reviews
     for engineering practice implementation area wide.

These position(s) require the ability to use a personal computer, scanner, or other automated office equipment.

To be basically qualified for this job, you must have: 

For GS-08 (Engineering Technician Series): One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-07)

- OR -

One and one half years of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-08 

For GS-09 (Engineering Technician Series): One (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-08)

- OR -

Two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-09.

NOTE: Graduate education meets specialized experience ONLY in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.

Specialized Experience: Examples of occupations that may have provided qualifying specialized experience include: draftsperson, surveying technician, construction estimator, physical science technician, or mathematical technician.  Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents.  Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.  Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

Credit will be given for appropriate qualifying unpaid experience or volunteer work such as community, cultural, social service, and professional association activities on the same basis as for unpaid experience.  To receive proper credit for unpaid experience or volunteer work, fully describe your responsibilities and show the actual time (years, months, and hours per week) spent in such activities.


You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.

You will be required to complete a one year probationary period.

If you are a male over age 18 who was born after December 31, 1959, you
must have registered with the Selective Service System (or have an exemption) to be eligible for a Federal job.
