Major Duties




Hours of duty: Normally Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary care clinical team providing a full range of psychological services. Enhances the nursing home treatment culture and promotes the delivery of psychosocial services to reduce symptoms associated with neuropsychiatric and other mental health conditions. Provides psychological prevention services to residents at significant risk for psychological problems. Provides screening for cognitive deficits to address specific functional questions or to determine if a referral for a complete neuropsychological evaluation or dementia assessment is needed. Performs capacity/competency assessments where there are questions about a resident’s ability to make medical decisions, perform other specific functions, or live independently. Provides individual and group interventions to support residents that are coping with feelings of grief and loss associated with disability, adjustment to the nursing home environment, and other life transitions. Contributes to the gathering of assessment information and the development of a detailed treatment plan for veterans. Participates as a member of medical center hospital committees as directed.  Serves as an advisor, consultant and/or resource person to the staff within the medical center.  Maintains appropriate records and follow-up data on patients who are their responsibility.  Serves as a member of the planning group for evaluating the effectiveness of the treatment program and modifying it to better serve the needs of the patient. Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients. Complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (e.g., entering diagnostic and procedure codes). Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings as held by CTVHCS and MH&BM management. Attends regular Psychology Service staff meetings, Medical Staff meetings, MH&BM staff meetings and complies with Psychology Service peer review procedures. Provides clinical supervision to psychology interns, practicum students, fellows, and residents as assigned. The applicant selected for this position could be eligible to apply for an education loan reimbursement award under the provisions of the Education Debt Reduction program (EDRP).

Qualifications





Must be a citizen of the United States.
Must have doctoral degree in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).  Specialty of degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
Must have completed a professional psychology internship training program accredited by APA.  Exceptions (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctorial internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement.
Licensure:  Must hold full, current, unrestricted licensure to practice in the United States or this can be waived for 2 years from the date of employment if under supervision of a licensed psychologist.
Must meet physical requirements mandated by VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7405(f).




You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
