Major Duties

The incumbent serves as the Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) Nutrition Specialist Dietitian, for TVHS.  The specialist is a professional member of the interdisciplinary HBPC team. The specialist is considered the medical nutrition expert for HBPC and is responsible for the medical nutrition treatment of veteran beneficiaries on the HBPC program. The dietitian is also responsible for providing professional guidance and education in the medical nutrition care of HBPC patients for medical residents, fellows, nursing, allied health, and dietetic students.  The incumbent will travel to the homes of eligible veterans within a 60 mile radius of the Nashville Campus, Nashville, TN.INCOMPLETE APPLICATION PACKETS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.ADDITIONALLY:

Qualifications

Citizenship:  Citizen of the United States.  (Non-citizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available in accordance with regulations issued by the Under Secretary for Health or designee).

Additional experience GS-11: One year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-9.

Licensure:  All applicants must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing branch of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).

Physical Standards/Requirements:  See VA Handbook 5005, Part III, Chapter 2, paragraph 7, and VA Handbook 5019, Occupational Health Services. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.  

English Language Proficiency.  Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407 (d).  [No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. Chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity who is not proficient in written and spoken English].

All technical, legal and regulatory requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

Education:  Degree: dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science.

Dietitian: For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by The American Dietetic Association (ADA) in effect at the time of graduation. Information on ADA-approved curricula may be obtained from The American Dietetic Association, 430 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60611. (Professional registration as a registered dietitian (R.D.) is evidence of meeting ADA requirements.

Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph. D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.


You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
